LAKEVIEW METRO RECEIVES FOODLAND ONTARIO AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

MISSISSAUGA – Today, on behalf of Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Rudy Cuzzetto, MPP for Mississauga-Lakeshore, recognized the Lakeview Metro for their creativity in building produce displays that encourage shoppers to buy local, while demonstrating an outstanding commitment to grow Ontario’s local food industry.

“Retailers have faced many unprecedented challenges over the last few years,” said Cuzzetto, “but the Lakeview Metro team continues to go above and beyond, creating exciting displays that made it easier for consumers to identify and choose local foods for their families.”

“The Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards is an important program recognizing excellence in the display, and promotion of all the high-quality fruits and vegetables grown right here at home in Ontario,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “I sincerely congratulate the Lakeview Metro team for building innovative displays that encourage shoppers to support the Ontario farmers and market gardens. Buying local supports Ontario farmers, food processors, supports food security and benefits our entire economy.”

This annual program celebrates the creative expression of produce managers and their staff for the unique and innovative displays that promote locally grown food. This year, 60 retailers were received awards across the province.

The Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards includes four categories of displays retailers can enter between January to November that promote locally grown and in season fruits and vegetables.

“For more than 45 years, this program has helped forge strong relationships among retailers, commodity organizations, and growers,” said Cuzzetto. “I’d also like to take a moment to recognize and thank the co-sponsors of these awards, including the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association.”
